The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit began on Sunday in the northern port city of Tianjin, just days ahead of a major military parade in Beijing commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. On Monday, Presidents Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin used the gathering of Eurasian leaders to deliver pointed criticism of the West, in a summit designed to spotlight Beijing’s central role in regional affairs.
